On this page, some supplementary material is provided for the paper A new methodology for constructing a publication-level classification system of science by Ludo Waltman and Nees Jan van Eck (paper, preprint):
- Clustering software. Clustering can be performed using the smart local moving (SLM) algorithm. The SLM software, including the Java source code, is available here.
- Assignment of publications to research areas. The assignment of all 9.5 million publications to research areas is available in a text file. Publications are identified by their Web of Science UT code in this file.
- Labeling of research areas. The labels of the research areas at all three levels of the classification system are available in an Excel file.
- Map of the 672 research areas at level 2 of the classification system. Click on the figure below to open the map in the VOSviewer software. (This software requires Java version 6 or higher to be installed on your system.)
- Map of the 417 publications belonging to research area 4.30.10 of the classification system. Click on the figure below to open the map in the VOSviewer software. (This software requires Java version 6 or higher to be installed on your system.)
